This historic house museum was the home and workplace of Georgia O’Keeffe, one of the most significant Modern artists of the 20th century. O’Keeffe bought the house in 1945 and restored it with the help of her friend, Maria Chabot. She lived there till 1984, two years before her death.
The house is managed by the Georgia O’Keeffe Museum. It can be visited with a guided tour that includes a visit in the gardens and the Spanish Colonial adobe structure that stayed as it was left in 1984, providing a rare glimpse of O’Keeffe’s modest and minimal life.
In the house and studio, you will see some of the inspiration to her art, such as the patio door that appeared in more than 20 of her paintings, the view of the cottonwood trees, and the Chama River Valley out the window, as well as the road leading to Santa Fe. A display of O’Keeffe’s collection of rocks, skulls, and other desert treasures is reflecting her love for nature.
