This memorial commemorates the contribution of Puerto Rican women to their country. It consists of a standing bronze statue of a woman in movement, climbing a ladder, and holding the world in her right hand, symbolizing how much power and energy women need to invest in improving their position in society and the importance of their contribution to the world.
The plaque on the pedestal states in Spanish:

The Ponce chapter of the Union of American Women, led by Edna Rodriguez, commissioned and donated the statue to the city. They chose the renowned Puerto Rican sculptress and photographer Maria Elena Perales to create it.
It is the first statue that honors the female legacy in Puerto Rico and one of the firsts in the Caribbean islands.
It stands in Ponce’s Historic District facing Dora Colón Clavell Park, which honors the mother of the former governor of Puerto Rico and Ponce native Rafael Hernández Colón.
Another statue was dedicated in Ponce in 2002, honoring the famous Puerto Rican musician, singer, and composer Ednita Nazario.
