This guided tour in Edinburgh Old Town will explore the history of Edinburgh and Scotland from the perspective of their notable women. Your tour guild will lead you between the tourist landmarks and hidden places related to female heritage.

You will hear the stories about witches, murderers, mothers, and doctors who lived and shaped the city and country. Some of these women have visible landmarks that you will visit, while others still did not get the attributions they deserve, and this tour guide will tell you their inspiring Herstory.

Ever wondered where J.K. Rowling got the inspiration to create Harry Potter and his wizarding world?! Some of it happened in Edinburgh, and this guided tour takes you to those places. Rowling came to Edinburgh with her young daughter to live with her sister after escaping an abusive relationship with her first husband. While working on her first Harry Potter book, she lived in a small flat and received government assistance. The first book, Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone, got rejected by 12 publishers, and in 1997, printed in only 500 copies. The book tells the story of Harry Potter, an orphan, a young wizard, and his two best friends who attend Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry and work together to defeat the evil Lord Voldemort. The first book was followed by six more. All became a worldwide success. Over the years, Rowling sold over 500 million copies, the books were translated into at least 70 languages, and she became one of the highest-paid authors of all time. Your tour guide is a Harry Potter fan who will tell you Rowling’s story and the places that inspired her in Edinburgh. While strolling the streets of Edinburgh, you will stop at the places that inspired Rowling for many locations in the Wizarding World, such as the Balmoral Hotel, University of Edinburgh’s Old College, and Nicolsons Café. Small-Group Mary Queen of Scots Walking Tour

Join a knowledgeable guide for a tour of Edinburgh’s historic landmarks, some of which are connected to Mary Queen of Scots in various ways, and learn about the city’s rich history. The tour will start at the Scottish Storytelling Centre and John Knox House Museum, then to the Canongate Kirk (a Scottish word for a church) dated back to the late 1600s. On the historic kirkyard (graveyard), many notable people lay their final resting place, including the lover of Mary Queen of Scots. On the way to The Scottish Parliament, the tour will pass by the house of the famous philosopher and author Adam Smith. Outside the Scottish Parliament, you will see Arthur’s Seat and hear all about it. The next stop will be at White Horse Close, which served as a tavern on the way to London. Many things happened here and in the nearby structures, and you will hear all about them. One of the last stops will be at Holyrood Abbey, where you will admire the ruins of what was once one of Scotland’s most important places of worship.
