#MadeByWomen Restaurants in Chicago

Chicago is considered at the top Michelin Starred Cities in the world. But even restaurants who did not receive a Michelin Star offer great food in a well-designed venue since both the aesthetic and cooking are things that Chicagoans care about. Women own a small percent of the hundreds of restaurants in Chicago. Here is a list of a few of the #MadeByWomen restaurants in Chicago.



1. Elizabeth @ Lincoln Square

American Restaurant in a different style * $$$

A multiple award-winning restaurant, one of them is a Michelin star, is specializing in Midwestern inspired dishes with a mission to bring back forgotten flavors and cooking methods. As a farm girl, the self-taught owner and Chef Iliana Regan emphasizes the flavors of her childhood with seasonal fruit and vegetable made in the traditional Midwestern methods.

2. Vanille Patisserie @ Lincoln Park

Patisserie * $

Since 2002, Vanille Patisserie is maintaining the tradition of French pastry art. Chef and owner Sophie Evanoff, alongside a team of skilled pastry chefs, is dedicated to preserving the authentic quality and taste of the European baking goods. In all three locations, you will find a wide variety of pastries, cakes, and desserts, including macarons, tarts, croissants, entremets, and handmade chocolates.

3. Saucy Porka @ Loop

Asian Restaurant * $

Saucy Porka defines itself as an Asian-Latin fusion, blending flavors, textures, and spices from the south and east Asia and Puerto Rico. In their cooking, Co-owner and Chef Amy Le, and Chef Rafael Lopez are recreating their home cooking heritage in modern techniques, creating new infused dishes, such as Bao-Tacos, Chorizo Egg Roll and Puerto Rican Rice bowl.

4. Goddess and the Baker @ Loop

Bakery * $

A Bakery that serves salads, sandwiches, and a wide selection of baked goods. It is known for its delicious coffee and casual energized environment. Owned by Debbie Sharpe – a former music journalist and a caterer for the Rockstars, who opened it in 2015 as a spin-off cafe of “Goddess and the Grocer” restaurant group.

5. Vivere @ Loop

Italian Restaurant * $$$

Set in a theatrical dining hall, Vivere specializes in contemporary Italian cuisine. Opened in 1990 as a spin-off of “the village” restaurant, third-generation owner, Gina Capitanini, is preserving the family tradition of serving the latest trends in Italian cuisine inspired by the rich, versatile regional dishes of the boot country. Open Tuesday to Saturday serving lunch and dinner menu as well as a fixed menu.

6. Saigon Sisters @ West Loop Gate & Streeterville

Vietnamese Restaurant * $$

An Award-winning restaurant specializes in Vietnamese and Thai traditional cuisine. Opened in 2009 as a kiosk in Chicago’s French Market by Mary Nguyen Aregoni, her husband Dan, and sister, Theresa, and expended to three locations offering a wide variety of meats, seafood, and vegetables, all based on authentic family recipes. 7. Duck Duck Goat @ West Loop

Chinese Restaurant * $$$

Opened in 2016 by the Chef and partner Stephanie Izard. As an “authentic Chinese restaurant,” the rich menu includes dishes such as Dim Sum, noodles, fried rice, and soups. Serving lunch and dinner daily.

8. Sweet Maple Cafe @ Little Italy

American Restaurant * $

A breakfast place with a taste of home. Owner Laurene Hynson opened Sweet Maple Café in 1999, creating the perfect menu which combines traditional cooking, such as Old-Fashioned Pancakes and Classic Corned Beef Hash, with new recipes such as sweet milk biscuits, and Protein Power Scramble. 9. Majani Restaurant @ South Shore & Pullman

Vegan Restaurant * $$

Majani, which means “green” in Swahili, is a vegan restaurant that specializes in plant-based cuisine. Determined to offer healthy eating options, Chefs and owners Nasya Emmanuel and Tsadakeeyah Ben Emmanuel, are using fresh ingredients from local farms and gardens. Located in a space featuring recycled and reclaimed materials, Majani is serving a variety of delicious vegan dishes, such as fried grits, falafel burger, and taco salad.
