Washington, DC, experienced an unprecedented rise in prostitution during and after the Civil War. This tour takes back to the dark history of our national capital, down Pennsylvania Avenue, which had been DC’s most notorious red-light district of that era.

You will learn about the ramshackle “boarding houses” of Murder Bay to the chic pleasure houses of Marble Alley that lay right in the shadow of Capitol Hill.

Your tour guide is Katie Kirkpatrick, who always loved history, storytelling, and costuming. When she discovered her passion for sharing the unknown stories about her beloved city, she founded Off the Mall Tours.
