Initially, we prepared this list of Vegan places so that no matter which neighborhood you travel in the city, you will have a Vegan place to eat. But once you will see the delicious and interesting options on the list, the choice of where to travel might be based on the restaurant location. These restaurants worth visiting even if you are not a vegan.

1. Dirt Candy @ Lower East Side

Vegetarian Vegan Restaurant * $$$

An award-winning restaurant of the award-winning owner and chef, Amanda Cohen, is serving only vegetables with a goal “to make them taste better than anything you’ve ever had before.” There is a dinner menu only that changes regularly with simple and sophisticated dishes. There are two tasting menus, and the restaurant is proud to declare that they don’t take tips because their staff members are professionals who should receive a living wage.

2. May Kaidee @ Lower East Side

Vegetarian Thai Restaurant * $$

It started in a street cart in an alley of old Bangkok in 1988 and progressed to three successful restaurants in Thailand and one in NYC, all serving authentic Thai food. The NYC location is serving Vegan Thai food, and 99% of the dishes are gluten-free. The menu includes curries, salads, soups, and healthy steamed noodle
and vegetable dishes.

3. Divya’s Kitchen @ East Village

Vegetarian Indian Restaurant * $$

A large and diverse menu of organic, freshly cooked vegetarian and vegan food prepared according to Ayurveda. From vegan pancakes and shakes for brunch to Indian curry dishes for lunch and dinner, and there are many more. The co-founder, Divya Alter, cooked for years in yoga ashrams and temples in India, Europe, and the US and has been teaching Ayurvedic vegetarian cooking in NYC since 2009.

4. ps-kitchen @ Hell’s Kitchen

Vegan Restaurant * $$

PS Kitchen defines itself as a “Sophisticated plant-based menu using fresh ingredients.” Serving lunch and dinner daily and brunch on weekends. The menu contains salads, burgers, desserts, and a full bar of cocktails, beers, and wines. Besides providing healthy food to the body and the planet, PS Kitchen is a social business, donating all of the profits to charity, and giving employment opportunities to everyone.

5. Hangawi @ Midtown South

Vegetarian Korean Restaurant * $$$

With an agenda to provide healthy food, this Gourmet Korean-inspired vegetarian restaurant is operating in NYC since 1994. The design is a Korean Spiritual style with long sharing-tables and cushions as chairs. There are prefix menus, as well as menus for lunch and dinner, offering noodles, rice bowls, different appetizers, and many more.

6. The Butcher’s Daughter @ West Village

Vegan Restaurant * $$

The Butcher’s Daughter is a plant-based restaurant, juice bar, and café, which consider itself as “vegetable slaughterhouse.” All their locations (3 in NYC and 2 in CA) are beautifully designed and serving breakfast, lunch, dinner & weekend brunch. The menu is regularly changing and has many vegan and gluten-free options.

7. Modern Love @ Brooklyn

Vegan Restaurant * $$

This cool vibe and trendy restaurant is serving American vegetarian dishes with salads, burgers as well as interesting entrées as Lentil Walnut Bolognese and Chicken Pot Pie made from seitan. Open daily from 5 PM as well as on Weekend for morning brunch.

8. Toad Style @ Brooklyn

Vegan Restaurant * $$

Everything is made in house in Toad Style, from their burgers to the nut-based cheese. Open daily 11 AM-11 PM. Toad Style serves brunch, a large variety of sandwiches and sides, all plant-based, palm oil, and soy-free.

9. Seasoned Vegan @ Harlem

Vegan Restaurant

The only restaurant to serving vegan soul food in the world. Heaven for vegans who want to enjoy the full Harlem experience. The menu offers cheeseburgers, crawfish, riblets, fish with all the traditional sides, and vegan cupcakes for deserts. The founder and lead chef, Brenda Beener, is managing the restaurant with her son, and their family went vegan in the 1990s.
