Ripples of Change Monument

Ripples of Change statue dedication in Seneca Falls, NY - 9/24/21

The new Ripples of Change statues, which were placed in Seneca Falls in early September, will be officially dedicated at a special private event on Friday, September 24th.

While the event is closed to the general public due to guidelines, the entire event will be available via a livestream feed provided by FingerLakes1com..

Ripples of Change, designed by renowned sculptor Jane DeDecker, depicts four activists whose work spanned generations, including Laura Cornelius Kellogg, Harriet Tubman, Martha Coffin Wright, and Sojourner Truth.

The Women’s Suffrage Centennial Commission (WSCC), an organization created by Congress to commemorate 100 years of the 19th Amendment and to honor the history of women’s fight for the vote, partnered with the Town of Seneca Falls and the Seneca Falls Development Corp (SFDC) to create this one-of-a-kind commemorative centennial statue, which will bring to life the earliest chapters in the story of the fight for women’s rights.

US Senator Kirsten Gillibrand, New York State Lt. Governor Brian Benjamin, New York State Senator Pam Helming, and other dignitaries will speak at the event as part of the dedication, which will also feature a Thanksgiving Address, performances, and speeches by Indigenous People.

The Chorus Ensemble and Brass Ensemble comprised of students from the Seneca Falls Middle School and Mynderse Academy will be at the event to provide music and song.

The statue has already attracted local, regional, and statewide interest, and the livestreamed event will help expand awareness of the statues and their message nationwide.
